Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster and one of the largest in Italy cluster - C. H. I. C. O. (CLUSTER OF HEALTH, INNOVATION AND COMMUNITY) cluster has signed a cooperation agreement

Participants of the Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster took part in the Russian business mission led by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsyba in Rome 26-28 October 2016. The trip was organized in the framework of the annual partnering Forum “Meet in Italy for Life Sciences”, which takes place in the capital of Italy on 26-28 October.

Participants of the Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster took part in the Russian business mission led by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsyba in Rome 26-28 October 2016. The trip was organized in the framework of the annual partnering Forum “Meet in Italy for Life Sciences”, which takes place in the capital of Italy on 26-28 October. The delegation also included representatives of the State Institute of drugs and good practices, the Association of Russian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (ARPM), a number of leading domestic pharmaceutical companies.

The two-day program began with a meeting of the two countries major associations pharmaceutical industry heads - Viktor Dmitriev, General Director of ARPM and Massimo Scaccabarozzi, President of the Association Farmindustria. The Italian party acquainted Russian participants with the activities biopropylene and biopharmaceutical clusters of Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and the Company at the site Meet In Italy.

The first day began with working a round table discussion ‘The Pharmaceutical industry: scientific and technical collaboration between Italy and Russia’ which was organized in the framework of the diplomacy festival with the participation of the Heads' Ministry of health of Italy. Speaking at a round table Sergey Tsyb noted the great prospects for cooperation between States in the pharmaceutical field: "the Program "Pharma 2020", which is well known in the world, it has become a new impetus for attracting investment for the Russian pharmaceutical industry. Over the last three or four years, the industry had invested more than 2 billion euros. In five years all the major global pharmaceutical market players have built factories or established joint projects on the territory of the Russian Federation. The Italian company has 2% on the Russian market, they have prospects for development and we are willing their activity not only in the direction of imports but also in creating joint ventures on the basis of domestic production. The Russian government, Ministry of Industry and Trade are ready to full cooperation to this process."

In the 28 of October there was a co-operation agreement signed between Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster and one of the largest in Italy cluster- C. H. I. C. O. (CLUSTER OF HEALTH, INNOVATION AND COMMUNITY) during the key plenary session of the conference Meet in Italy for Life Sciences. From the Russian side the agreement was signed by Executive Director of NP "Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster" Irina Novikova, with the Italian side was President of the cluster C. H. I. C. O Fabio Miraglia.
In the framework of the signed agreement supposed cooperation for priority clusters activities such as:

  • Technology development and production of the original pharmaceutical substances;
  • Modeling the structure and effects of chemical drugs;
  • Computer design of chemical medicines;
  • Engineering and production scaling of finished dosage forms;
  • Licensing and production of finished dosage forms;
  • Decontamination services of pharmaceutical substances and finished dosage forms;
  • Recycling of pharmaceutical production.

The agreement will be implemented through the exchange of good practices, participation in joint projects of economic development, information exchange, development of collaboration between Russian and Italian universities, research institutions, medical institutions and specialized companies in the sectors of the life sciences and health.
"We’re able to determine their interest in our competences in the field of nuclear medicine, the production of anti-cancer drugs, the development and radiopharmaceuticals production during agreement preparation. During the visit of Italian colleagues, which will be held in November 2016 we’ll organize a visit of leading enterprises of the cluster and infrastructure that will allow to discuss in more detail the possibility of implementing joint projects. A successful implementation example of the project for the construction is the plant Berlin-Chemie/Menarini on site Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster which has become one of the most effective and modern production sites of the group Menarini, inspires Italian colleagues to further expand cooperation with our cluster," noted Irina Novikova.

During the Russian business mission was held also meetings with the Ministry of economic development of Italy, Italian Agency of medicines and representatives of professional associations, the Lazio region administration, the cluster management C. H. I. C. O as well as a visit to the Castel Romano technology parks and research center of the company Menarini. During a visit the research center of the company Menarini was hold the presentation of the Kaluga plant activity results by the Director of the plant Irina Braginskaya. She noted great prospects for development of the production site and expansion of cooperation with large world manufacturers of medicines. The activities of the company Menarini in the Russian Federation has received a high rating by Sergey Tsyba who expressed the support ftom the Ministry of industry and trade to company management for plan implementation to further localize production in Russia.

(Cluster of Health, Innovation and Community) - the region's first health cluster Lazio (Italy), which is a non-profit organization in the field of life sciences and health, including about 100 participants. It was established as an intermediary for the transfer of knowledge and technology from research activities to industry to the innovative project development for health care. Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster is formed in 2011 and in March 2012 was legally formalized in the form of non-commercial partnership "Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster" and today is one of the largest pharmaceutical clusters in Russia.

Industry cluster specialization - conducting preclinical and clinical studies, development, synthesis and implementation into production of pharmaceutical substances and radiopharmaceuticals, manufacturing of finished pharmaceutical products (FPP) and pharmaceutical substances, infusion solutions and parenteral nutrition.
In the 6 March of 2013 according to the decree of the RF Government № 188 cluster has been given the status of Russian Federation pilot innovative territorial cluster.
NP "Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster" is the only Russian pharmaceutical cluster - the owner of Cluster Excellence Bronze Label that confirms compliance with its performance the world's leading practitioners in the group «Health and medical science».

At present an agreement was reached with the European experts about the passage expert assessment for a Cluster Excellence Silver Label in March 2017 which ensure Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster will join the group of the world's leading clusters in the Life science.

Nowadays the cluster includes 63 enterprises and organizations. Industrial cluster core includes such global companies as "AstraZeneca", "NovoNordisk", "STADA CIS", BERLIN-CHEMIE/MENARINI large and medium-sized Russian pharmaceutical companies "NEARMEDIC PLUS", "Mir-Pharm", "PharmVILAR", "BION "," Obninsk chemical and pharmaceutical company ", “Pharm-Sintez” and “SPHERA FARM”. " The cluster members are the leading state research centers of the Russian Federation in the field of development, production and application of radiopharmaceutics: I.I.Leypunsky Institute of Physics and Power Engineering «IPPE», Karpov Institute of Physical Chemistry (NIFKh); the world-renowned Center of Nuclear Medicine - Medical radiological scientific center A. Tsyb. The cluster consists of 38 small innovative companies and design. The cluster includes 38 small innovative and engineering companies.

More than 70% of its production enterprises cluster relates to innovative products.
